All Associations Should Have Such a Committee

Assisting today's broadcast students in becoming tomorrow's Illinois broadcasters is an on-going project for the IBA. The IBAcademics Committee, created by the IBA Board of Directors in the mid-90's, is made up of academia representing the many IBA-member colleges and universities in Illinois that offer studies in broadcasting. The IBAcademics Committee provides guidance in planning several events geared to high school and college students who are thinking about a career in broadcasting.  In 1999, IBA pledged $100,000 in supporting annual scholarships at Illinois' finest colleges and universities providing broadcast curriculum. This project was funded by the IBA. The last project IBAcademics added to it's plate was an annual workshop for high school students. Along with Bradley University, IBA has contributed $10,000 each year to help host this workshop.  Contact the IBA for opportunities at your school or university.

This could just be the hardest working committee under the IBA umbrella as this group of dedicated faculty members from Illinois colleges and universities develops IBA-University, a one-day conference for college juniors and seniors who are seeking a career in broadcasting.  With representatives from over a dozen schools, the committee meets several times a year.

IBA Director Mike Bradd, Eastern Illinois University, serves as Chairman of the IBAcademics Committee.  Bradd oversees the one-day conference, the Student Silver Dome Awards Competition, and staffs a judging team from Illinois faculty members to judge out-of-state student award competitions.

For information on speaking opportunities or to participate on any of the panel sessions that make up IBA-University, please contact Mike Bradd at mbradd@eiu.edu.

IBA-U 2009 will be held on October 2, 2009 on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois
